Goliath van de Groenweg remains by a wide margin the most popular Connemara stud stallion in Belgium approved by the BWP. The BWP annual report once again highlights the immense appeal of the now 24-year-old stallion. Last year, 15 of his offspring were registered with the BWP, bringing his total to 155 BWP offspring. He also remains particularly popular abroad.

Goliath van de Groenweg is regarded as a typical modern Connemara pony stallion and ranks among the finest representatives of his breed at the highest level in recent years. His exceptionally long career and his six appearances at the European Championships speak volumes. He competed in those championships under both Belgian and Danish colours: 2011 Jaszkowo, 2013 Arezzo, 2014 Millstreet (where he finished second individually), 2015 Malmö, 2016 Aarhus Wilhelmsborg and 2018 Bishop Burton.

His list of achievements is impressive. Among other things, Goliath won the CSIOP Grand Prix in Wierden two years running, became Belgian champion in 2011, won the Belgian Cup, and achieved numerous top placings at national and international level. For instance, he was placed in the CSIOP Grand Prix in Lamprechtshausen, finished sixth and later third in the CSIP Grand Prix in Moorsele, came second in the CSIOP Nations Cup in Wierden and third in that of Bonheiden.

Goliath continued to excel under various riders. Under the saddle of Arnaud Gaublomme (BEL), Clara Hallundbaek (DEN), Thibault Philippaerts (BEL), Laura Baaring Kjaergaard (DEN), Marthe Van Gorp (BEL) and Ines Van Dijck (BEL), he achieved strong results, including a ninth place in the CSIOP Grand Prix in Copenhagen, an eighth place in the CSIP Grand Prix in Valkenswaard and a second place in the CSIP in Lier.

In 2009, Goliath van de Groenweg also became reserve champion stallion at the Belgian national Connemara inspection, where he won both the ridden stallions’ class and the show jumping stallions’ class.

With his impressive career, his enduring popularity among breeders and his strong genetic influence, Goliath van de Groenweg remains an absolute benchmark within Connemara breeding.
