Gilles Thomas leads both the Global Champions League and Global Champions Tour rankings
After Valkenswaard, Gilles Thomas is at the top of the Global Champions League and Global Champions Tour rankings. It is extremely rare for the same rider to lead both rankings.
Gilles took Saladin “S”, Happy Landais, Riviera van het Dennehof, Qalista DN and Qiara De Kalvarie to Valkenswaard, where the horses jumped strong courses one after the other, resulting in a number of top placings.
The Valkenswaard United team with Hans-Dieter Dreher and Gilles Thomas took second place with eight penalty points in the Global Champions League on Friday. Dreher had one jumping fault in each round, while Gilles remained clear with his two 9-year-old BWP mares Qalista DN (by Emerald) and Qiara de Kalvarie (by Sea Coast Don't Touch Tiji Hero). Gilles also finished second in the second round (1.60 m) with Qalista DN. On Sunday, Gilles rode to third place in the GP with the only nine-year-old Qalista DN, behind Harrie Smolders (Monaco) and Nicola Philippaerts (Katanga vh Dingeshof).
