Gilles Thomas and Qiara De Kalvarie are Belgian vice-champions
After winning with Ermitage Kalone in 2023 and Luna van het Dennehof in 2024, Gilles Thomas came close to winning another Belgian Senior Championship title. Riding Qiara De Kalvarie, daughter of Sea Coast Don't Touch Hero, Gilles finished behind the new Belgian champion, Jos Verlooy, who won his fourth title. At nine years old, Qiara De Kalvarie was one of the youngest horses in the championship. It is impressive that she jumped so convincingly to second place in a strong field of competitors. The mare has learned a lot over the past few days at her first championship.
The young horses also showed great things on the beautiful Zangersheide tracks. Scotch van het Dennehof, son of Ducati vh Schuttershof out of the Prince van de Wolfsakker mare Luna van het Dennehof, jumped into the final of the World Championships for seven-year-old horses, just like Saladin “S”. Scotch finished that final in 16th place, while Saladin “S” jumped to 29th place. The Lewis van het Heidehof (Udarco van Overis x Chin Chin) jumped twice double clear during the qualifiers.
